Multicultural societies are characterised by people of different races, ethnicities, and nationalities living together in the same community. In multicultural communities, people retain, pass down, celebrate, and share their unique cultural ways of life, languages, art, traditions, and behaviours.

Asylum seekers and immigration support

New Step for African Community (NESTAC) - is a charitable community organisation aimed at supporting refugees, asylum seekers and other immigrants from the new emerging communities, with a focus on those from African origin living in the North West of England.

Breaking Barriers - supports refugees into employment with advice, experience and education. 

RADAR - is a charitable incorporated organisation based in Rochdale whose aim is to support destitute asylum seekers and refugees in the borough. 

Immigration Advice Service (IAS) - is a team of qualified lawyers who are proud to offer dedicated, professional and high-quality advice for any immigration issue.

Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit - (GMIAU) exists to advise, support, represent and campaign with people subject to immigration control.

Nigeria Community Association - our organisation is a non-profit making venture committed to providing a vibrant cross-cultural platform and supportive environment for Nigerian community members.

Refugee Action - we help refugees who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We get them the basic support they need to live again with dignity. Then we help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK.

Migrant Help UK - we exist to protect people affected by displacement and exploitation, helping them thrive as individuals and recover from their trauma. We support those most in need and least likely to find support elsewhere, whilst aiming to bridge community gaps and bring services and support together.

Refugee Counci - is one of the leading charities in the UK working directly with refugees, and supporting them to rebuild their lives.

Nadra Card Centre - provides online Nadra documents to overseas Pakistanis in the UK. You don't need to visit Nadra consulate physically, just apply on our website.

Local BAME support

Caring and Sharing Rochdale - we are the primary mutual aid for the BAME community in Rochdale. We are open to the community to relax and have a cup of tea and chat with someone.

BAME and New & Emerging Communities Services – Rochdale Mind - we are committed to improving the mental health and emotional wellbeing for individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities who experience mental health and wellbeing instabilities, proactively supporting them on their journey to emotional health and wellbeing. 

Multicultural Resource Centre - our training programme includes, Cultural Competence Mental Health, Dementia and BAME Communities to NHS Staff, Memory Service, Social Service and Manchester University.

Friends of Shamwari - Asylum seekers, refugees and their families are all welcome here.

Near Neighbours - we bring people together in communities that are religiously and ethnically diverse, so they can get to know each other better, build relationships of trust, and collaborate together on initiatives that improve the local community they live in.

Health

Childhood illnesses and wellbeing - every parent or carer wants to do what is best for their growing baby and to give them the best start in life. These resources aims to help you understand what to do and who to ask in a number of situations; including what to do when your baby or child is unwell.

Living Well Rochdale - we are here to support you when living and feeling well feels too tough to tackle alone.

Community Connectors - can help you with a number of topics, such as health, housing, employment and money management.

Black Health Agency (BHA) - Health and social care charity which exists to challenge and address health and social care inequalities and support individuals, families and communities to improve their health and wellbeing.

Black Health Improvement Plan – CAHN - is a culturally appropriate education, training and support package designed for primary care staff and other healthcare professionals. 

Childcare and education

Help choosing childcare - when choosing childcare and an early education setting consider your family situation and main reason for needing childcare.

Starting Primary School - the first key transition is when your child moves into reception class at primary school. Many children will be supported by the Early Years Team with this move into primary school or a special school.

Starting Secondary School - when moving from primary to secondary school you will receive help and support from the Schools Admissions Team and the EHC Assessment and Review Team.

Hopwood Hall College - Rochdale Campus - we are a further education vocational college based on two campuses in Rochdale and Middleton.

Learning services

Talk English Rochdale - Rochdale Borough Council is working with community organisations, schools, children's centres and libraries to help people learn English, access services and get more involved in the community.

Little Linguist - provides multicultural books for children in over 50 foreign languages.

Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture (CWTC) - we focuses on the awareness of dementia, diabetes and mental health and improving employability skills. 

Deeplish Community Centre-  we provide a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for the local community and user groups, enabling them to participate in educational, social and learning activities.

Work, Health and Skills Team - find a job with Rochdale Borough Council, other councils, agency work or jobs around Great Britain and abroad.

Religious centres

Rochdale Dawah Centre (RDC) - our regular services and activities have helped hundreds of people learn, share or find relief from any issues they face.

Bangladesh Association Community Project - we are a long established charitable organisation located at the heart of Rochdale’s inner city areas in the North West, which are amongst the most socially and economically deprived in Rochdale.

Rochdale Arab Community - Lamet Habayeb Association - we provide services aimed at helping and supporting all vulnerable people in our society.

Manchester Buddhist Centre - we have taught med­it­a­tion and Buddhism to thou­sands of people from Greater Manchester and bey­ond. We are well known for our friendly and informal style of teach­ing, explor­ing what Buddhism can teach us in the mod­ern west.

The Federation of Jewish Services - the Fed is the leading social care charity for the Greater Manchester Jewish Community, looking after hundreds of people of all ages, at any one time, in their own homes or at Heathlands Village. 

Victim support

Domestic Violence and Abuse - Where to find help - in Rochdale borough, domestic violence and abuse affects thousands of adults and children each year.

Victim Support - as an independent charity, we work towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and the respect they deserve.

Rochdale Women's Welfare Association (RWWA) - our mission is to challenge and assist women and their children who experience or are at risk of domestic violence.

Become United - we offer a range of services and advice for BAME people who are affected by domestic violence. 

Unseen - Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline - we are working towards a world without slavery.

Saheli Asian Women’s Refuge-  provides advice, information and support services to Asian women and their children fleeing domestic abuse and/or forced marriages and is based in Manchester.

Karma Nirvana - is an award-winning national charity supporting victims of honour-based abuse and forced marriage. Honour crimes are not determined by age, faith, gender or sexuality, we support and work with all victims.
