Derwen College works with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, providing inspirational learning, development and care to enable the achievement of aspirations which transforms lives.
We offer day provision at each of our sites, with residential accommodation available at the main campus in Gobowen. Houses at Derwen are designed to reflect supported living.
Our specialism is building employability skills through authentic work opportunities in our commercial outlets and off-campus with our partners in the wider community. The vocational options offered are designed to meet industry standards, preparing students for the job market.

Individualised learning includes a comprehensive Personal Development and Independence programme. Students are supported to begin learning to care for themselves, shop, cook, develop road safety skills, extend their abilities in inter-personal relationships and take their place in society.
At Derwen College, we believe that students develop their independence best when they work on it in a real environment.
Short Breaks at Derwen offer young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities aged 18+ the opportunity to enjoy a break at Derwen.
You can take part in a range of activities and trips, as well as making use of the campus facilities. Holidays can be a great opportunity to relax with friends, meet new people and explore local attractions.
You will stay in bright, modern residences with single en-suite rooms and will have full use of a communal kitchen and lounge with TV and Wi-Fi. Meals are bespoke to your individual preferences and needs.
Experienced care staff are on hand to provide you with support when required and ensure you get the most out of your holiday.
You can choose from a range of daily activities, which may include; basketball, use of the gym, football, day trips to the beach, theme parks and local attractions, shopping, cooking, bowling and cinema.
Short Breaks are available year round apart from two weeks closure at Christmas.

Derwen College is providing outstanding Supported Internships in partnership with a national chain hotel. Supporting people aged 18 to 25 with a learning disability or difficulty into paid employment.
The Derwen Supported Internship is a hands-on training programme of twelve months based in the workplace.
Both the student and employer are fully supported with experienced and outstanding Derwen College staff to ensure a positive experience for all.
Expert Functional Skills staff provide learning for the student based in the workplace.
All candidates will:
- Have an Education and Health Care Plan.
- Be keen to work in the hospitality and housekeeping industry.
- Be able to travel independently or have the support to do so.
- Be working towards entry level three upwards in functional skills.
- Be working towards entry level three upwards in vocational skills.
- Be able to work within a team or independently.
- Have a willingness to work towards timescales and performance indicators.
Each case presented will be looked at by both the Admissions Manager and Off Site Provision Manager before progression to interview.
Programmes are based on a 37 week (Study Programme) to include agreed hours with the hotel chain.
A willingness to fully engage in a minimum three days work placement, rising to four days where possible, and an additional one day of study including functional skills.
