National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (Deaf CAMHS)

Our National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (NDCAMHS) works with children and young people aged 0 to 18 who have severe to profound hearing loss, have deaf parents or have British Sign Language (BSL) as a first language and who also experience emotional and/or behavioural issues consistent with a Children’s Global Assessment Scale [CGAS] rating of 50 or less.

We work to improve the mental health of these children and young people through supporting them and their families.

The service consists of a multidisciplinary team including, psychiatrists, mental health nurses and psychologists. All have individual and service training to ensure skills are developed and maintained to work effectively with children and young people with SEND and their families.

Many of the team have experience working with children and young people with SEND prior to joining the Deaf CAMH Service.
