Children and Young People’s Voice
About
According to the United Nations right of the child it is the right of every young person to have their opinions and ideas heard by the adults who make decisions which affect their lives.
Increasingly government and other organisations are recognising the need for services to hear and acknowledge children's and young people's voice.
What we do
In Rochdale we are keen for young people to have their say and through the youth service opportunities are created for young people to do so.
We facilitate the elections for the member of UK youth parliament (MYP) and their deputy bi-annually for both Rochdale and Pennine and Heywood and Middleton. The youth cabinets of both constituencies meet on Wednesday evenings in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton as well as attending regional and national meetings for young people in other towns and cities.
The team also support forums for targeted groups including cared for children, young carer's and young people with additional needs. All of these groups have representatives or feed their views and opinions into the borough-wide youth cabinet.
The overall aim is to make an impact on the lives of children and young people in the borough through dialogue with decision makers across the borough as well as in Greater Manchester, the North West and nation.
