Inscape House School
About
Inscape House School is based at Cheadle, Stockport. It is part of the Together Trust charity, a leading specialist education, community and care provider offering opportunities to students throughout the UK.
In recent years, the school redeveloped its Cheadle campus to bring together many of its autism services. The first phase was completed in summer 2012 and allowed our post-16 students to move into purpose-built accommodation at the beginning of the 2012/13 academic year. We completed phase 2 of the development in summer 2013. This includes our new resource centre offering training and support activities for parents.
We are a centre of excellence for autism spectrum conditions. We provide a safe, calm and enjoyable environment for young people with autism spectrum conditions (ASC), so that they can forge for themselves a happier, more independent future.
What we do
At Inscape House School, we break down barriers to learning for children with autism. Based in Cheadle, we support young people from Year 1 to Year 14.
We recognise that every child is different. That's why we create individual learning programmes matched with a core team of therapists. All delivered by our dedicated team and accredited by the National Autistic Society.
Our approach
At Inscape House School, no two learning programmes are the same, because no two learners are the same. We take a creative and personalised approach so that every student can learn at their level, in a way that suits their needs.
From the curriculum to classroom design, we think about every detail to help our learners thrive and we work with our students to be as flexible and responsive as possible. We know that small adjustments make a big difference.
Our teaching methods
We approach teaching in a flexible way to meet the needs of our learners. For instance, students might have personal timetables and one-to-one tuition, balanced with group work and activities. Our class sizes are purposefully small – never more than eight students and each group has a teacher and educational assistants who work with the students every day.
Positive behavioural support
Our approach is positive and proactive, never punitive. We support students in understanding their emotions and help them learn coping strategies to handle all kinds of situations.
Person-centred curriculum
We shape learning programmes to the student while offering a broad range of subjects from the national curriculum. But it’s not just about academic achievement. We also teach communication, social and life skills. Read more about the curriculum at Inscape House School.
Creative ways to support learning
We get to know our students and the things they’re interested in. Those special interests can be a great way to help students with their progress. We’ve found all kinds of ways to engage our students, from gardening and horticulture to falconry and owl therapy.
