Transport for Sick Children

About

Transport for Sick Children is a unique volunteer driver scheme, set up to help children with a health need living in Greater Manchester to access essential health care.

We are currently operating with a limited number of drivers due to the pandemic. Please send in any transport requests as usual via email (trips@transportforsickchildren.org) or the website and we will try our best to accommodate them.

Practitioners please log in for referral form and criteria.

What we do

Our volunteer drivers, who are all checked for their suitability to work with children, donate their time and provide transport for children, accompanied by their carers, to hospital and other medical appointments.

We remove the stress and hassle of getting to appointments so children and their carers can focus on getting the most benefit from their treatment or appointment. The volunteer will wait or return once the appointment or treatment is completed, and take the child and their carers back home.

Volunteering

Volunteer drivers wanted who can use their own cars to take local children to hospital and health appointments (fuel reimbursed at AA rates). Please contact us for further details.

How to access the service

We only receive referrals from health professionals as they are best able to assess need and assess the level of deprivation. As a result, we provide transport for those who really need it.
