The UK Sepsis Trust

About

The UK Sepsis Trust exists to fight the life threatening condition, stop preventable deaths and support those affected by sepsis.

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis (also known as blood poisoning) is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection or injury. Normally our immune system fights infection – but sometimes, for reasons we don’t yet understand, it attacks our body’s own organs and tissues. If not treated immediately, sepsis can result in organ failure and death. Yet with early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics.

What we do

We work to raise awareness of sepsis among the public and health care professionals; encourage early diagnosis; lobby politicians to improve standards of care; and provide better support for sepsis survivors.

Whether you’re struggling with grief, having problems with your recovery or trying to support a loved one after they leave hospital, you can contact us through our website or by phone. Our trained sepsis support nurses are ready to offer support and advice.

Our website provides online resources and lots of information and advice about Sepsis.
